Mount Roskill Guide Map
1) Mara Hupara — Traditional Maori Playground
This playground is located at Underwood Park. It can be accessed via Sandringham Road Extension (Walmsley reserve leading to Underwood park) or via Hendon Ave, Mt Roskill, Auckland. The playground is made from natural materials including Swamp Kauri. Well worth a visit if you have children.
2) Te Auaunga awa / Oakley Creek
Te Auaunga/Oakley Creek is one of Auckland’s longest urban streams, winding its way from Hillsborough through Mt Roskill, Ōwairaka and Waterview to the Waitematā Harbour. The awa/creek from Walmsley Reserve to Underwood Park is a lovely walk featuring lots of native plants. It has a BMX track, a community falé (Te Auaunga Multicultural Fale), the Mara Hupara (Traditional Māori Playground) and a cycle track on its banks. Enjoy the family picnic benches in the summer.
3) Kids Bike / Pump track
Located at the banks of the awa/creek in the Underwood Park area, this a great spot to take pre-schoolers during term time (while the big kids are at school) or for the bigger kids to go and get some practice on a BMX track, this is a bit of a hidden treasure.
4) Wesley Community Centre
The facility includes a playgroup area, outdoor courtyard, community offices, Creative L@b and a large function room that have kitchens and kitchenettes available for use. Among the many activities on offer are holiday programmes, a twice weekly Market Day, Creative Digital Learning, homework group, support services, health services, legal & budgeting services, language classes, exercise classes and much more. The Centre has a Youth Zone, a number of rooms that can be booked for various functions, conferences and meetings.
5) Roskill Youth Zone
Located behind the Wesley Community Centre, this centre offers many programmes for children and youth. This is also the site for the bike kitchen which offers bikes to members of the community. Connect with RYZ at https://www.facebook.com/roskillyouthzone1/
6) Keystone Ave Mural
Several murals that you can see in Mt Roskill bring art into the public sphere. You will enjoy the beauty of a work of art in many spots in Roskill!

8) Maori Sculptures
This spectacular stone carving titled ‘Te Huinga’ by artist Chris Bailey frame the entrance to Fearon park. Named after a Mt Roskill Borough councillor, the park connects with Harold Long Reserve.
9) Clock Tower / Welcome Sign
The iconic clocktower is located at the junction of Mt. Albert Road and Dominion Road. Featuring a three-faced art deco style clock. The clocktower also features a “Welcome to Mount Roskill” sign. This will be replaced in 2023 by a more vibrant welcome sign.
10) Pukewiwi / Puketapapa / Mt Roskill
The mountain/maunga that gives its name to the Mount Roskill//Puketāpapa area. Located on Dominion Road extension. A climb to the top will see you get an amazing panoramic view of the area. A Matariki event is held here every year in June celebrating Maori New year. The event also features kite flying and heaps of interactive activities.
11) Frost Road Mural
Several murals that you can see in Mt Roskill bring art into the public sphere. You will enjoy the beauty of a work of art in many spots in Roskill! Located at Dive H.Q. 50A Frost Road, this community mural was a collaboration with seven different partners including Mt. Roskill Intermediate School, Dive H.Q. , the Steadfast Foundation and Roskill Together. The children involved created sea life designs which were then incorporated by an artist to create the mural.
12) Pah Homestead
An exciting cultural destination located in the historic Pah Homestead in Monte Cecilia Park, Hillsborough. The Centre hosts a changing programme of contemporary art exhibitions curated from the Wallace Arts Trust Collection of over 9,300 works, as well as regional touring exhibitions. It also runs ongoing community education programmes targeting Auckland schools and the wider public. It has a nice Café , gift shop and a meeting room available for rent.
13) Turners Reserve
Located at the junction of May Road and Glynn Street, this small reserve features a children’s playground, basketball hoops and a “learn to cycle” track for children close to Roskill South development houses.
13) 'Welcome to Roskill South' Sign
Unveiled in March 2021, ‘Welcome to Roskill South’ sign was co-designed by local Puketapapa schools, cub and scout groups, and parents from the local kindergarten. The sign shows the maunga within the Roskill South lettering. The blue background features ‘welcome’ in many languages reflecting the diversity of the locality. The design work was facilitated by Roskill Together with funding from the Ethnic Communities community development fund.
16) Cameron Pool and Leisure Centre
Located in Arundel Street, Mt Roskill, The Center offers nice pools, fitness facilities and programmes which will help to get your family moving together, with swim lessons for kids, group fitness classes, on-going programming with a trainer, indoor/outdoor pools, spa & sauna, steam use and a range of membership options to suit your needs.
17) The Puketapapa Local Board Office
The Puketāpapa Local Board is one of the 21 local boards of the Auckland Council, and is one of the two boards overseen by the council's Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa ward councilors. The Puketāpapa Local Board borders the Manukau Harbour and includes the suburbs of Three Kings, Hillsborough, Waikowhai, Lynfield and Wesley.
18) Keith Hay Park
The park is located in Arundel Street, Mount Roskill and is one of the largest and most used parks. It offers a good network of accessible looped paths that are perfect for a casual stroll or jogging. The paths connect many parts of the community. A playground with climbing equipment and swings is suitable for young children as well as accessible toilets. There is seating along the paths throughout the park and on the edge of the southern sports fields. For those who love biking, there is a shared path cycleway runs through the park. For sports and fun, you can enjoy using the basketball half-court.
19) Communities Feeding Communities CFCI
Communities Feeding Communities CFCI is a non-profit organisation located at Dominion Road. CFCI is a joint initiative between PSN and Northern Presbytery working with the local Puketāpapa community to ensure access to affordable, nourishing food. This is an inspirational model for feeding people in need through a centralised community food initiative.
20) YMCA Lynfield Youth & Leisure Centre
The Centre offers gym, basketball courts, children's sport and venue hire in central Lynfield. The fitness facilities on offer will help to get your family moving together, with sports for kids, group fitness classes and a range of membership options to suit the needs of the family. There is a range of venues for hire, including the stadium, group exercise rooms, meeting rooms, and venues for children’s birthday parties!
21) Hillsborough Chalk Wall
A friendly neighbourhood artist uses this brick wall to update the community on holidays, sports winnings and all things worth celebrating. Stop by and see what’s happening!
22) Molley Green Reserve (Community Orchard)
Located at Morrie Laing Avenue, Mount Roskill, the Reserve features a large green open space with mature trees nestled among residential properties. During your vists, you will enjoy picnic tables and seating, and basketball courts inside the reserve by the Morrie Laing Avenue entrance. The reserve offers a good network of paths connect the entrances.
23) Roskill South Oasis Hub
The Roskill South Hub is in the community to coordinate a range of early year’s services in Puketapapa, from pre-birth through to six years of age. The hub is run by Waikowhai Community Trust (WCT), a local community driven organisation, and coordinates services in many key areas. The Hub provides a safe place to come, relax have morning tea and meet other mums and dads. Children aged 0-6 are in a safe environment.
24) Waikowhai Walkway
This 10 km walkway in Hillsborough follows the northern shore of the Manukau Harbour from the Onehunga Foreshore to Lynfield Cove in the west. Along the way, you can take in sheltered coves, regenerating native bush and stunning views across the harbour. Follow the track along the shoreline at low tide, or through a series of reserve tracks at high tide.
25) Waikowhai Park/Beach
Waikowhai Park (kōwhai by the water) is the jewel in a network of parks on the northern banks of the Manukau Harbour. This park (8 Waikōwhai Road, Hillsborough) is a significant ecological area. The large block of regenerating forest is home to lots of wildlife. It acts as both a linkage and a buffer between the coast and adjacent residential areas. A good network of navigable paths link the playground, lookout, lots of open space, the beach, accessible toilet and dog walking area.
26) Opened Stone (Hiroaki Ueda) Japanese Sculpture

Enjoy panoramic harbour views of the Manukau Harbour. The awe-inspiring 'Opened Stone' sculpture, red granite sculpture by the late Japanese sculptor Hiroaki Ueda was inspired by traditional Shinto shrines. 'Opened Stone' is one of five artworks created as part of the 1971 International Sculpture Symposium. The sculpture stood outside the Auckland Art Gallery for 35 years and was reinstalled in Pae-mohani / Manukau Domain in 2016.
